something completely different

Before Lent arrives in force and we shouldn't ask dorky things for awhile --anyone have any thoughts on crop circles? Some of them are so beautiful and /most/ of them are mathematically sophisticated, makes me think friendly (especially the beautiful part).

Sorns? Hrossa? I'm thinking more Sorn-y, but I'm open. Don't even go there with the hoax thing -- it's just not possible with the vast majority of them.

Haven't a clue, but I do know that Mike Scott of the Waterboys wrote a fun little song about 'em.

I love the mystery of them. There are so many things we can't explain and that's the way it should be.

Aliens. Definitly aliens.

The real question is, am I kidding? (insert twilight zone music here)

The real question is: Are aliens really aliens?

As to who makes them: Prarie dogs. Who else. They're out to get us all.

I saw something in the sky once, while we were rennovating the church. Strangest feeling ever. Kind of makes you wonder about all those toothless farmers who say they were abducted. But Phil had a good take on the whole thing. You should ask him.

That's funny, actually I think it was last year...Met. Theodosius was here talking to the College and Careers and someone asked him to consider that very question. He basically said of course why wouldn't there be extraterrestial life? It was quite funny actually, because it surprised a lot of people there....eyebrows raised with delight! He was also late for that evening meeting with us, because he convinced Fr. Dennis that he needed to catch the last 5 minutes of CSI: More delighted eyebrows! :)

i remember hearing once that it is extrememly arrogant for us to assume we are the only ones. but i don't know where i stand...this is one of those questions i just avoid answering.

I don't think 'arrogant' is the right word -- although I've certainly heard it too. It's maybe just 'implausible'. Then again it's philosophically certainly /possible/ that the earth is unique -- why couldn't it be? There is absolutely nothing to base any theory on either way, so neither idea is inherently arrogant.

Anyway we already know we are not the only created intelligent beings in the universe. I'm not saying angels did the crop circles. . .just that there are more things in heaven and earth etc etc Horatio. Maybe we don't have to have a stand on it -- it's like modern art. You just take it as it is.

Btw, I also once saw a very weird light in the sky in a very rural place. It was quite large and it just sort of floated diagonally to the ground from the sky and disappeared. No sound, and far too smooth and unblinking to be an aircraft. (Besides there is no possible runway in that field.) Yeah, it is a very weird feeling.
