The prayers may have said something about a taper bearer, but he's actually been tonsured (ritual haircut!) a reader, that's why he is reading in this picture! The bishop opens the book at random & the new reader then must prove he can actually read! His liturgical title is Reader Innocent. Same for our other readers-- Gregory G, Gregory W, Edward Paul (Dr. Hartley), Peter (Dr.), Wayne Basil, Seraphim (did I miss anyone?) Our subdeacons (who sometimes read as well) are Gavin, Bro. Cyprian, Sava, James, Thomas. (did I miss any of those either?)
I should just let people know that the party at our house on the 13th isn't really a baby shower--I mean gifts are welcome if you'd like, but it's really supposed to be a baptismal party so we can celebrate Theo's birth/baptism with all our friends and family. We want this to be an event for men and women and we'd prefer if people bring food as opposed to gifts so we can celebrate heartily.
